The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)

NBACC’s Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) is charged with the responsibility for the review, approval and surveillance of all research involving the use of recombinant nucleic acids (i.e., DNA and RNA) including synthetic nucleic acid molecules and genetically altered organisms. All research projects at NBACC that involve laboratory manipulation of recombinant or synthetic nucleic acid molecules, and/or recombinant organisms must be approved by the IBC and must conform to IBC procedures and principles, which are outlined in the NIH Guidelines for Research Involving Recombinant or Synthetic Nucleic Acid Molecules, November 2013 (NIH Guidelines).

The IBC is scheduled to meet once per month; however, meetings will only be conducted if there are applicable projects to be reviewed. In accordance with NIH Guidelines, meeting minutes from NBACC’s Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) are available on this website for public review once they have been approved.
