Cardin, Van Hollen, Trone Seek to Solidify Fort Detrick-based Biodefense Lab as One-of-a-Kind National Asset
Washington, DC| Friday | December 02, 2022 U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressman David Trone (all D-Md.) have introduced legislation to authorize the continuing operations of the National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center (NBACC) at Fort Detrick, Md. First established in 2004, this one-of-a-kind laboratory supports both the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Federal Bureau of Investigation, as well as numerous other federal agencies and partners. The NBACC “has played a key role in America’s response to the Nation’s most difficult public health and biodefense challenges,” according to DHS, including the 2014 response to Ebola and the recent COVID-19 pandemic.
